Castle Sessions- Guitars Day 3

…and day 2 of being sick, inspiring a blog through the fog of illness and nyquill induced inebriation. I nostalgically recall the low-budget science-fiction movies of old: the kind that would be parodied in Mystery Science Theater 3000- as Aaron and Sean create and record ethereal swelling noises with guitars at the computer desk. This, combined with the interference of firing neurons in my brain, produce a some-odd-millisecond visual latency that usually accompanies the consumption of too much alcohol. This combination manifests in me the feeling that I live a space ship. Have you ever recorded your voice in a space ship? I hope these symptoms disappear before the time comes for me to record vocals, but who knows? Perhaps the catatonic symptoms of my illness will serve harbinger to some creativity, until now unprecedented in myself. After all, the craziest dreams I have had were during illness. I could use this, as I am still writing lyrics, seeing leisurely, but steady progress.

In truth, this process sometimes seems vain to me. Until yesterday, I was mostly ignorant to what kind of music is popular today. Sean then introduced me to Metro Station and Katy Perry. I remember feeling appalled at the kind of insubstantiality and vapidity that pervade the music these groups represent. Overtly sexual references produced by the circa sixteen-year-olds of Metro Station fuel a vicissitude of morality affecting the aspirations of those as old as my sister and brother. I think this discouraging, because those who write with the intent of challenging as well as entertaining, often sing their songs to ears deafened in favor of 3 minute, 30 second anthems of American ADD. I really prefer the “shallowness” of Beatlesesque love songs to what is out now. Shallow as some may accuse, I think honest romantic love proves among of the most profound forces in human experience that almost all people can relate to.

There exist still some artists who seek to write music and lyrics to uplift and inspire, so I will attempt to go and do likewise.

Anyway, things move along here with each day. The guitars sound good to me so far. I hope you will all enjoy the fruits of our hard labor over this production, and in many respects, experiment.

Thanks for drudging through the gratuitously verbose parts of this blog :)
